Fulcher Street Ash Wednesday service to be held Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012 at 7 p.m.
(Please see below for a letter from Pastor Ty and a schedule of activities for the evening of the 22nd)
Dear Church Family,
Every year we begin the Lenten Season by celebrating Ash Wednesday. This year we will journey to the cross of Calvary with Jesus. Though His disciples questioned His actions Jesus turned His face toward Jerusalem. His journey would be one of total self denial. Setting for us an example to do the same. It would be treacherous, dirty and painful.
We will journey with him. So often we tend to think that we are somehow in control of our life, but how might our life’s journey be different if we truly let Jesus be “in the driver’s seat”? Come Wednesday evening, February 22nd, as we begin our journey to the cross.
Schedule of Activities for Wednesday evening, February 22nd
·All Wonderful Wednesdays activities and times will remain the same, including the light meal at 5:30 p.m. and classes at 6:00 p.m.
·Following the Wonderful Wednesdays activities, the Ash Wednesday service will begin at 7:00 p.m.
·The Choir Partners and Adult Choir will be singing during the Ash Wednesday service and Pastor Ty will be preaching the sermon.
An Ash Wednesday worship service will also be held on February 22nd at 7 p.m. at the OOTBWC campus to accommodate parishioners who would like to worship at the OOTBWC location.
Join us for hot dogs with the fixin’s in the Fulcher site Fellowship Hall on Sunday, February 26th to celebrate Camp Sunday 2012! Please note the meal time has been changed - we will begin serving after the 11 AM Fulcher Worship service has concluded.

Registration for summer camps will also be held in the Fellowship Hall during the meal. Please see Rick or Judy Beasley if you would like more information.
Please note the movie showing was originally scheduled for Sunday, February 19th, but was rescheduled for Sunday, February 26th due to inclement weather conditions on the 19th.
Location:
OOTB Worship Center,
516 N. Main St.
Hillsville, VA 24343
Please join us for a showing of the movie “Courageous” at FUMC OOTBWC:
Four men, one calling: To serve and protect. As law enforcement officers, Adam Mitchell, Nathan Hayes, David Thomson, and Shane Fuller are confident and focused. Yet at the end of the day, they face a challenge that none of them are truly prepared to tackle: Fatherhood.
Then, on the following Sunday, March 4th at 6:30pm, men who have seen the movie will be given a chance to sign a “resolution” at a special Resolution Ceremony at FUMC Hillsville Fulcher Street location.
Please bring your favorite movie night snacks: popcorn, soda, bottled water etc.
FUMC and OOTBWC will be collecting peanut butter for the food pantry on the following Sunday:
February 26
Due to flooding and drought during the past growing season, peanut butter is in short supply and when ordered with the last food order it was not available.
Some stores are limiting the sale of peanut butter to 2 jars per person. This item is a staple that is placed in each bag sent out from the food pantry.
A box will be available to collect jars of peanut butter during this time. Please remember to pick up a jar of peanut butter when you are at the grocery store. Blessings!
If you can knit, crochet, or sew (or you would like to learn) and want to get together and make service projects for others the FUMC knit/crochet/sewing ministry meets every other Saturday for about an hour at 10 a.m. at the main street site, FUMC-OOTBWC.
The knit/crochet/sewing ministry (Crafters for Christ) will meet at 10 a.m. the following Saturdays at Out of the Box Worship Center. Anyone interested in helping out is welcome to join. The group is currently making walker/wheelchair bags, and has currently made 19 bags. The group hopes to wrap up this first project by the end of February/beginning of March and deliver the bags to local nursing and/or assisted living home residents.
For more information, contact Beth Brooke at (336) 953-1293 or easeagraves@gmail.com. It’s not too late to join, please feel free to come and see what we’re working on and planning in the future!
Need for additional Media Desk volunteers at Fulcher Site services
We are in need of volunteer help for the Media Desk during the Fulcher Site services. Primarily the need is for additional volunteers to do the Sunday Night Connect (formerly known as Sunday Night Live) services
Sunday Night Connect (formerly known as Sunday Night Live) media desk duties include:
·Be there at 4:00 to set up for the band to practice
·Running Media during the service
·Breaking equipment down after the service, wrapping up about 7:30 or 8:00
In addition, a couple of new volunteers are also needed for the morning service.
The Media Team will train anyone willing to help with these services. Duties are on a rotational basis, so volunteers also have time to enjoy worship services.
Please prayerfully consider this request for volunteers.
If you are not currently receiving the FUMC prayer chain, and would like to receive it, please e-mail your address to the church office or leave a message in the church office with your name and e-mail address on it. You will then be added to the prayer chain notifications. Mary Anna
Beginning Monday, Jan. 9th, 2012, there will be a new Bible Study at OOTB-Youth Center on Monday mornings from 9:30-11 a.m. This is an open door Bible Study that will last approximately 8 weeks. We will be covering “Spiritual Gifts”. Please contact Joe Stilwell or Terri Dunevant if you have any questions. Please feel welcome to join us and invite a friend!
Activities in art, drama, and music for children ages 4 to Grade 5, a nursery for the little ones, and lots of inspiring fun and fellowship—It all happens on Wonderful Wednesday! This year’s theme is “The Big Picture.” For more information contact Wonderful Wednesdays coordinator Leona Brown at the church office or Cindy Jackson @ cjackson813@comcast.net. We will have a light meal at 5:30 and activities will begin for all ages at 6:00 p.m. The adults will meet in the Sanctuary and have 15 minutes of gathering prayer requests and praying. At 6:15 we will begin our study which will conclude at 7:00. This is the ideal opportunity for parents and grandparents to bring the younger children to Wonderful Wednesday, enjoy the meal and while the children enjoy their activities, the adults attend our time of prayerand study. We look forward to seeing you!
