Music Programs

 

 

     The music programs at First United Methodist Church, Hillsville have been a long-time tradition of the church. The church at this time offers three different vocal ensembles for several different age groups in the church and community.

 

     Vivian McBride is the director of the Sunbeam Choir. Kim Harrison is the assistant of the Sunbeam Choir. Cindy Jackson is the director of the Choir Partners.

 

Adult Choir – The Adult Choir meets on Wednesday nights at 7:45 p.m. in the choir room. If you have any questions, please see Cindy Jackson, Music Director.

 

Sunbeam Choir – The Sunbeam Choir is for children ages four to grade one. It offers instruction using the Church Music for Children curriculum. The program offers the children an opportunity to play rhythm instruments and develop their singing voices. The songs learned are used to enhance the learning of lectionary-based Bible stories. The children sing occasionally during worship services and participate in an annual Christmas program. The Sunbeam Choir meets in the Fellowship classroom from 6:45 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday nights. (Labor Day to Memorial Day)

 

Choir Partner’s Club – The children in this choir range from second grade to fifth grade. This choir also receives instruction based on the Church Music for Children curriculum. The children discover Bible stories through songs and activities. Beginning music reading and playing rhythm instruments are also a part of this curriculum. The structure of the worship service and the use of hymnals are also taught. Children further develop pitch matching and their singing voices. The children participate in occasional worship services and are involved in a program at Christmas and in the spring. The Choir Partner’s Club meetings (Labor Day to Memorial Day) on Wednesday nights from 6:45 to 7:45 p.m. in the choir room.
